December Teacher of the Month: Clarissa Gordon

Each month, Marshall ISD celebrates the outstanding contributions of our campus faculty to the overall educational experience of our students. These professionals work countless extra hours at home, on weekends, and over holiday breaks with one focus in mind -- to make MISD and their campus Marshall Proud and Maverick Strong for our students.

The Teacher of the Month for December 2017 at Marshall Junior High School, as selected by Principal, Mrs. Yolonda Martin, is Clarissa Gordon, sixth-grade Math teacher.

"Clarissa does an amazing job finding real world applications to her math lessons so students can understand concepts and apply them," said Mrs. Martin. "Her energy drives students to do their best. Students love Mrs. Gordon!"

What made you want to enter a career as a teacher?: "I had three wonderful and amazing teachers who were there for me as a young teenager and showed me what a great teacher is and can do to change the life of someone who is searching for guidance. What do you enjoy the most about teaching and serving specifically at Marshall Junior High: "The students! What I love is, I learn from them just as much as they learn from me, and my family (Alice Jones, Lynsey Christmas and Brittany Gatlin). We work well together and support each other throughout."

What are some things you hope to accomplish in your career? Future plans?: "I love just being Mrs. Gordon to my students. No matter where God has intended for me to work at in the future I want to be the best teacher my students have and I want to see the light bulbs light up when they discover something for the first time."
